Refuge in the Storm

Updated: Feb 25, 2023

God is our refuge and strength,

a helper who is always found

in times of trouble.

Psalm 46:1

I often find myself entertaining anxious thoughts during times of uncertainty. How about you?

I have found, in talking with ladies in my groups, that this is a common theme in our lives. Lots of us are natural worriers, or naturally anxious about things outside our control. Do you tend to fall in this group too? It's ok. There is hope for us!

Psalm 46:1 gives us God's assurance that, no matter what is going on in our lives, he can always be found, and is there to help us. We just have to ask him! I know that sounds like a given, but I can't tell you how many times in the past I completely forgot to ask him, and jumped right into worrying, fearing, and being an anxious mess over an urgent matter in my life. Then, when my stomach was aching, or I had a headache, I would remember to turn to God and implore him to help me.

Oh, sweet ladies, this is not how it's supposed to be, is it? Well, then, how is it supposed to be?

Just like the verse above says, God is our refuge and strength, who is always found in times of trouble.

So, what do we have to do to find something? Yes, we have to first look for it. So, to find God's help in times of trouble, we have to find him, which means we have to look for him. How do we look for him? Such a great question!

Here are some powerful ways to look for God:

  • Prayer - simply start talking to God, like he is right there with you. Because he is. Tell him what's worrying you. Ask him for help. Ask him to help you see and know his answer. If it's an emergency, simply ask him to help and protect you, and believe he will.

  • Read his Word, the Bible - pray before reading and ask God to help you understand what he is telling you as you read.

  • Praise & Worship - this simply means to tell God how much you love him, and appreciate his awesomeness. Sing songs that praise him or thank him for being good. Spending time in praise or worship of God will bring you so much closer to him.

  • Talk to other Christians you trust - Get their advice on whatever your situation is.

What other ways can you think of that would help you find God? Or feel closer to him?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for always being here for me. Thank you for being so willing to help me, whenever I need your strength and help. Please help me remember to look for you at the first sign of trouble, and trust you to provide the help I need. Thank you for always being faithful. I love you.

Amen.

Love always,

Mindy 💗
